That’s the number of years that we have known a domesticated cat to exist. In 2005, archaeologists unearthed a cat that lived as a pet in Egypt. The cat was dated to be around 9,500 years old.
Sleep a Lot
Cats spend 70% of their life sleeping. Talk about feeling jealous! These furry felines truly spend more time sleeping than engaging with their owners, yet we still love our pet cats more than anything.

A Cat Mayor
Yes, it’s true! A small town in Alaska named an orange tabby, Stubbs, mayor of their town. This cat stayed mayor for 20 years.
48.5 Inches
That’s the length of the longest ever pet cat recorded. This was a Maine Coon called Stewie. Usually, domesticated cats are considered dainty and small, but not Stewie!
Richest Cat
The richest domesticated cat in the world had a whopping 7 million Euros. His name is Blackie and when his millionaire owner passed away, he left his money to his cat while refusing to recognize any human family member.

You’re probably wondering what giraffes and camels have to do with your pet cat, but apparently, cats walk like these two animals. The way cats walk is similar to that of only two other animals on Earth, giraffes, and camels.
Isaac Newton
We bet you didn’t know that Isaac Newton was the first to invent the cat door! It’s true. He was working at the University of Cambridge when cats kept scratching at his door. He called a carpenter and had him install two holes into the door so the cats could come and go, without disrupting his work.
Space Cat
In 1963 a cat went to space! The first and only cat to go to space was named Felicette but known as Astrocat and is most known as the first and only cat to ever venture into outer space.

Shaved Eyebrows
We’ve learned that ancient Egyptians used to shave their eyebrows off when a beloved cat passed away. This was part of the family’s mourning process anytime a family pet died.
