Fact: They’re Worth the Wait
If you know your way around the kitchen, and even if you’ve simply baked a cake or two before, you know that vanilla beans, vanilla extract, or any kind of vanilla flavoring is a key ingredient in almost every cake and pastry. We’re not actually sure about the taste of vanilla beans, but their smell is sweet and intoxicating.
However, the cheap vanilla extract most of us buy at the store isn’t the real deal. Real vanilla takes a lot (and that is a lot) of time to create for distribution and consumption – we’re talking three years and more. It takes a plant three years to mature, and only then does it start yielding the vanilla beans.
