Fact: The Curse of Nutmeg
Nutmeg is considered the “old reliable” of all the other spices. There’s a reason that a lot of people keep a jar of it in their cabinets: it’s very flexible in that it can mix up the flavors of a lot of different foods. But, like all things in life, moderation is important. There are actually some pretty adverse effects that can happen if you overuse nutmeg.
Nutmeg contains an ingredient called myristicin, which is known to have some pretty adverse effects if consumed in excess. In fact, one of the side effects of over-ingesting it includes experiencing hallucinations. The silver lining is that you would need to consume a lot of nutmeg in order for this to happen. As long as you don’t pour out the jar over everything, you’ll be fine.
