Fact: A Very Literal Food
Some foods have incredibly interesting backstories. We’ve already seen some pretty wacky examples of that. But sometimes, you have certain foods whose backstories just make perfect sense. Sometimes, you won’t get thrown for a loop when trying to figure that out! This food has a very literal backstory to its name.
Pound cake used to be exactly what it sounded like! When it first was made in 1975, the original recipe called for a pound of flour, eggs, butter, and a pound of sugar. For obvious reasons, this recipe was scrapped in favor of a more conservative one. Imagine how much it cost for the original cake to get made.
