Fact: Why Carrots are Orange
Carrots are a widely popular veggie – and Bugs Bunny’s favorite snack! Many people traditionally associate carrots with the color orange. After all, that’s what all carrots on the market look like. But what if we told you that orange was not the original color of the popular veggie? See it for yourself.
That’s right: carrots were originally purple. We completely understand if this looks wrong to you. Purple carrots seem a little off-putting, although you can find them in some grocery stores today as well. Their orange color actually came from mutated carrot plants that were grown by Dutch farmers in the 17th century. We guess the lesson is sometimes food is not always what it seems.
