Everyone has a favorite food. Whether you’re a sweet tooth or your tastes lie in the spicy, or sour, there’s always something out there that will tickle your fancy. But, how much do you really know about your favorite foods? For example: Did you know that the wasabi you eat at local restaurants isn’t actually the real thing but a counterfeit, because the real thing is incredibly expensive to obtain? There’s a lot that we don’t know about our favorite foods or the foods we eat on a regular basis. In fact, many of the secrets surrounding our favorite foods are surprising to hear about. Today, we’ll dive into little-known, mind-boggling food facts.

Fact: Popsicles Were Created by Accident
They say that some of the best things in life happen by accident, and some of the best snacks out there were actually created by mistake. Out of all the foods that hold this mantra, popsicles are probably the most believable. Have you ever left a beverage in the freezer for too long? The origin story of popsicles follows a similar storyline.

So, in 1905 an 11-year old Frank Epperson had left a cup of soda on the back porch by mistake. It froze overnight, and when he went to recover it, he found that the resulting ice cube actually tasted pretty good! He then went on to patent it later in his life. Out of all the accidental paths to success, we think this one takes the cake!
