For most people, one of the most important parts of work is having a set schedule. Sure, there are some that prefer having a spontaneous schedule, where they choose what they do each day, but that doesn’t work for everyone. Plus, it’s easier to be in your boss’ good books when you stick to the schedule…
Considering that this person had never before worked a weekend and was even told when they first started that they weren’t expected to work weekends, it makes sense that they booked a trip. Firing someone for obeying the rules you set out for them in the first place is a very strange thing to do.
