Reading Out Loud
The idea that the Bible should not be translated into English obviously did not last. By 1539, the first official English Bible came into being. Ironically, while translating to English was once a crime punishable by death, people were not ordered to read this English Bible at every church service.
It was King Henry VIII who ordered that every church in England must read the Bible aloud at every service. And he was sure to get his way. If you know anything about King Henry VIII’s temperament, you know he was a monarch that you did not want to disobey.
