Everything You Didn’t Know About Life in Venezuela

Venezuela is home to huge, flat-topped mountains called tepuis. They look like giant stone tables rising straight out of the jungle. Some are so tall that clouds wrap around them like scarves. These mountains were the inspiration for the magical landscape in Pixar’s movie Up.

What makes tepuis even more fascinating is that many of them have plants and animals that don’t exist anywhere else on Earth. Their tops are like isolated worlds that evolved separately for millions of years. Scientists sometimes compare them to “real-life lost worlds” because they’re so hard to reach and so unique.
