#20: There’s No Recovering from That
We really feel the cringe factor of this story, because sometimes our assumptions about people can truly backfire and make us look extremely rude or ignorant. This person worked as a bartender and was used to dealing with tipsy and drunk customers from time to time. One day, a guy comes into the bar asking for a beer, but he was slurring his speech and doing other physical movements that the bartender interpreted as, “intoxicated.”
They turned this man away because he was acting too tipsy and basically told him to leave. Turns out, their assumptions were all wrong and he wasn’t intoxicated at all. He left the bar and came back with his aide, who explained that he had a neurological condition that contributed to all the behaviors that this storyteller interpreted negatively. The bartender obviously felt pretty ashamed and quickly served the good man his drink.
