Easiest Dog Breeds to Train

January 25, 2022 by Sarah Carter

There are many breeds out there that are often very difficult to train due to their stubborn personalities. However, if you’re looking for an easy dog to train, look no further than the following list of popular breeds.

Golden Retrievers

Dogs like golden retrievers make excellent pets because they are gentle, affectionate, and active. Goldens love attention and will be eager to please you in whatever it is that you want. They are high-energy dogs, so they require plenty of exercise and attention.

Labrador Retrievers

As with Golden Retrievers, Labs also make for excellent pets due to their affectionate natures. This breed is eager to please its owner and thrives in an active household. Labs love to play and require plenty of exercise as well as attention.

Poodles

Poodles are one of the best breeds for those who want a smart dog that is eager to please its owner and easy to train. They excel in obedience training and can also be trained as service dogs or therapy dogs because they have a nonstop tail wag and a friendly demeanor. In addition, they are low-shedding dogs, so they are perfect for people with allergies.

Pekingese

Pekingese make excellent pets due to their easygoing nature and loyalty towards its family members. They require moderate exercise and lots of attention but tend not to be very difficult to train.

Collies

As with all herding dogs, collies are intelligent, obedient, easygoing, and eager to please their owners. They have a strong desire to work which makes them excellent candidates for competitive obedience training. They also make great therapy or service dogs due to their eagerness to please others as well as their calm demeanor.

Labradoodles

Labradoodles are one of the smartest, easiest breeds to train because they are crossbreeds of Labrador Retrievers and Poodles. They inherit the nonstop tail-wagging nature of the poodle as well as high intelligence and easygoingness from their Lab parentage.

Bernese Mountain Dogs

Mountain dogs, like Bernese Mountain Dogs, are often very easy to train due to their intelligence and eagerness to please. They do require lots of attention and exercise but tend not to be difficult when it comes to obedience training.

Shetland Sheepdogs

Shelties are another breed that inherit the nonstop tail-wagging nature of poodles and the intelligence and obedience of Labradors. They are easy to train due to their eagerness to please and can excel in different kinds of competitions, such as agility training.

Pit Bulls

Though they have a bad reputation, pit bulls actually make for very affectionate and loyal pets that love to please their owners. They require moderate exercise and lots of attention but tend not to be difficult when it comes to training or housebreaking them.

In conclusion, there are many breeds out there that are often very difficult to train due to their stubborn personalities. However, the aforementioned breeds tend not to be as difficult, making them some of the easiest dogs to own and train.
