Longer Short-Term Memory
Some pet owners claim that the use of dogs in police and military operations proves their intellectual superiority to cats. However, this fact strengthens the idea that those different roles are more related to temperament rather than raw mental prowess.
At least when it comes to short-term memory, it looks like cats have dogs beaten by a long shot. While a dog will not hold short-term memories past five minutes, cats hold short-term memories for up to 16 hours. This also says nothing about a cat’s long-term memory abilities, which can span a full decade at times.
