#17: Dark Side of the Moon
This family heirloom shows how much scientific progress we’ve made over the last few decades. This object is a moon globe from an undisclosed decade. Our storyteller shared that they inherited this moon globe from their late grandmother. Interestingly, the dark side of the moon is left blank on this globe.
The makers of this toy left the dark side of the moon blank because we didn’t know anything about that side of the moon when it was made. The first photo of the dark side of the moon was taken in 1959, so this globe must be older than that. It’s pretty wild to think that there were so many scientific unknowns even just a few decades ago.
