35. Intern
Interns are on not here to take your jobs. Or serve you coffee, either, like movies and TV would have us believe. It would be outright illegal for a company to replace you or to refuse to hire you because they have an unpaid intern. Out of all the misconceptions about people’s jobs, interns have to fight pretty loud to set the record straight.
Internships are designed to pay an intern in educational experience rather than money. With an internship under their belt, they’ll have a great resume that can lead them to a higher-paying position once they’ve finished school. Their employer could go to jail for eliminating paid positions and filling them with interns.
