Cats do not stop surprising us. Nor to ask ourselves questions about his many times considered “strange behaviors.” And Twitter is a reflection of this: a few months ago the social network exploded with funny videos of pussies with “drinking problems”, after becoming viral a video of a cat who drank from the bathroom faucet with difficulty, and that accumulates more of six million views.

Hundreds of people responded to the thread by sharing photos and videos of their mustache life partners doing exactly the same thing: drinking from the sink or kitchen faucet, when not directly from the bathtub. Which brings us to the next question: why do so many cats prefer to drink water from the tap rather than from their bowl of water? The answer, as almost always, has its furry logic.
To solve the puzzle, you must first observe the place where the cat’s drink bowl is at home. Many people place their bowl of water right next to the food. It turns out that cats like to drink and eat in different places, and the reason is evolutionary: all wild cats prefer to avoid water that may be contaminated with food debris, that is, remains of the prey that may not be in good condition, such as their intestines.
This strategy allows them not to get sick, something important if one lives out there in nature and depends on oneself to survive. All this is easier if the cat eats and drinks in completely different locations. If we think like a cat, finding the bowl of water and food together, even nearby, is confusing and quite strange.
The cat should drink frequently
A simple gesture that, however, can have a great impact on the health of our pussycat: it has been shown that increasing your water intake reduces the risk of suffering from a urinary tract disease, diabetes and even takes away the risk of appearing renal problems. Not only does it help to separate the water, but also to offer moist food, even cooking some recipes for water-rich cats are very helpful.
But there are cats that only drink from the tap. While some cats eventually adapt to their human’s strange hobbies and drink from the bowl, others wrinkle their whiskers and refuse round, because they consider it an unreliable water source. And they set out to look for other more acceptable suppliers.
Conclusion: why cats prefer to drink water from the tap
If your cat is one of those that runs to get into the sink every time you go to brush your teeth, leave the tap open while drinking. And offer a source of water for felines. In this way, you will always have available moving water. In any case, the cat fountain is a less dangerous solution, for everyone, than letting it get on the fishbowl.
