#46: Cut-Throat Cutting Board
I guess it shouldn’t come as a surprise, but it looks like your cutting board might be more dangerous than a pack of hungry piranhas! According to this microbiologist, our cutting boards are the perfect breeding ground for bacteria. If you’ve been using the same board for years and it looks like it’s been through a warzone, it’s probably time to say goodbye.
Those imperfections are the perfect hiding spot for bacteria, and they’re not going anywhere no matter how much you scrub. In fact, they’ll just keep multiplying until you’ve got a full-blown bacterial party on your hands (or your food). So, if you want to avoid a case of the stomach bug, keep an eye on your cutting board and give it the boot when it starts to look like a mini Grand Canyon. They say we should replace our toothbrushes every three months or so, so maybe the same rule should be applied to cutting boards.
