Made-Up Rules
Of course, we’re all familiar with the 5-second rule (sometimes known as the 3-second rule); we’ve been using that as an excuse to eat food we dropped on the floor since we were little kids. Though we often used this when we were in school or making food in our kitchens, it should not be the rule of thumb at a restaurant, where the floors are often sticky and dirty.
One former fast-food employee said that her manager swore by this shady, childish rule – every time that a bun would fall off of the table, they would just pick them up and ask as if nothing had happened. Although we’ve all done it before, it should absolutely not be standard practice in the restaurant industry!
