#42: The Truth Behind Helicopters
Words are weird, and useless facts about words tend to be even weirder. Let’s take the word helicopter as an example. Often, when we speak this word, we speak it as heli – copter. It just flows off the tongue easily like this. Well, when you look at the reality behind the word, things get a little odd.

Is it helico – pter? Yep, looks like it! That doesn’t mean it makes sense, though! Helico = spiral, pter = wing. I know this now, thanks to this Reddit user. Will I start thinking of this every time I say the word helicopter? No… because this is one of those useless facts that will just make me question the word way too much. I banish it from my mind! Or, try to!
